Inspiration behind the music

There are several things I wish I had the privilege to see. The Evergreen tree is definitely one of them. I have been told that during winter, the only tree that keeps its leaves is the Evergreen. Even when its branches are covered with snow, the rich green of its leaves is hard to miss. Unlike other trees that drop their leaves in order to adapt to their environment, it does not change; it remains consistently beautiful throughout the year.

Not too long ago, I found out the reason why. Evergreens can keep their leaves during winter, because they coat their leaves in a wax that protects against cold. Their cells also have anti-freeze chemicals which keep the fluids that flow through their leaves from freezing. Many valuable spiritual lessons can be learned through observing nature. When we consider the Evergreen, it is very hard not to notice how God’s character is portrayed in its ability to endure the harshest of winters.

We tend to feel secure when we know what to expect from the people we love. This is why we admire people who are consistent even if they don’t always treat us as we would like. In (Malachi 3:6) God declares that he doesn’t change. Like the Evergreen, he will not adapt to change. The reason is that he is perfect and with perfection, change is not only not required, it is not necessary.

Since God is perfect, he will always do what is right and since he doesn’t change, his righteousness remains consistent. He has promised not only to cover us with his righteousness, but he has also promised to impart his righteousness to us. (Isaiah 54:17) (Romans 10:3-4) This happens when we receive Jesus Christ as our personal savior. If we have Christ, then we have all things related to life and godliness. (2 Peter 1:4) We are not pressing towards a moving target, because “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

His promises are sure. We can rest on them completely knowing that they will not fail. Heaven and Earth will pass away, but his word will never pass away. (Matthew 24:35) Nothing and no one can pluck us out of his hands. (John 10:28) His love is just as consistent as his righteousness and nothing can separate us from it. (Romans 8:38-39) Just as the Evergreen protects its leaves even in the most brutal of winters, his life giving power seals us off from everything that is harmful to our souls and the connection we have with him. He is the vine and we are the branches. We will also be like the leaves of the Evergreen tree when we remain connected to him. No matter the situation we can stand firm in his righteousness because as the Psalmist says, our leaves shall not wither. (Psalms 1:3)After considering these things, there is absolutely no reason not to remain steadfast in our faith.

  1. This Evergreen song is now one of my favourites. I love the message behind the music and one that I will hold dear- we must all stay steadfast through the trials we each may face. Thank you – its just so meaningful. Blessings to you x

    1. Thank you Velda. This song also reminds me of the steadfast love of our Savior. God is also using the music that I write to encourage me. Glad you were blessed.

  2. Love it! Love all your music! When we know who we are in Christ, we can wake up every morning to shine just like an evergreen tree! The key is to remember, it’s not about us. It’s about Christ living in us!

(I listened to the Evergreen.mp3 and wished for the volume of the accompaniment to be pulled back a bit in a few places.)

    Blessings to you,
    Julie
