Inspiration Behind the Music

Our Heavenly Father has a standard of excellence that cannot be measured. It is higher than the highest human thought can reach. Since we were created in his image, we know that He has a very high ideal for us. Growing older is a natural part of life, but God never intended for his creation to grow old. His intention was that we would get better and better with the passing of time. Not only were we to improve physically as time passed, we were to rise higher and higher morally as well. In order for such a high standard of excellence to be maintained, justice is required, Especially for created beings with the power to choose between right and wrong.

When Adam and Eve sinned, they brought the whole human race down with them and we have been degenerating ever since. God’s standard of excellence also requires mercy and anticipating the fall of man, he made a plan to demonstrate His loving kindness. Now as time passes, we have seen God’s mercy on display in many ways and when we consider God’s standard of excellence, we see how much we need His mercy. After considering how Good God had been to him, David exclaimed, “I will sing of the mercy of the Lord forever!”(Psalms 89:1) The story of David’s affair with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband shows how low even those who profess to love God can fall. Thankfully, God’s mercy could reach even as low as his sins.

Our Heavenly Father does not delight in giving sinners justice, for the just response to sin is death. (Romans 6:23) He delights in mercy so that instead of death sinners may receive life. (Ezekiel 33:11) (John 8:12) Because God’s mercy has put His justice on hold for a season many have become bold and defiant in there sins, choosing not to realize their need of mercy, but since the fall of man sinners have been coming to repentance and the mercy of God has been seen by humanity and the on looking universe.

Soon God will show mercy to sinners in a way that will seem strange to many. He will destroy them and because whatever he does, he does well, not a trace of them will be left. (Isiah 28:21) Because sinners can not endure the presence of God even for a moment He could never allow them to experience the reward He has reserved for believers. They would suffer eternal misery in the land where righteousness and purity reign forever. In this way, the destruction of the wicked is a demonstration of God’s mercy. However, God never intended anyone to experience His mercy in this way.

David and many other bible characters left a record of God’s mercy for us to remember so that we can see that His mercy is available for every kind of sinner. For generations many have sung of His mercy and through out eternity the redeemed will continue the song that began right after Adam and Eve experienced it. Even angels who sing praise to our Heavenly Father constantly will not be able to sing this song the way we will sing it.

  1. I believe I heard this song on the Love Me series aired on the Hope Channel. I am so happy to now have it in my song collection, that I may listen to it frequently.
