Crying wolf
I know that Many of you have heard me say this at my christmas concerts and every year, at some point during the Christmas season, I find myself saying it again. “Jesus came so that he could come again.” I love to remind myself that if Jesus came as a baby and its a historical fact that he did, then we believers should have no reason to doubt that he is coming again as a concoring king. However through out the years there have been many false alarms. Last year, most of the world waited to see if December 21 would be the last day of Earth’s history. Two years ago, Hal Camping made two faild predictions about christ’s second coming and the end of the world. Many believed, but even more scoffed at the idea. this is the perfect setup. If the enemy of our souls can get people to cry wolf enough times then noone will take Jesus’s promise to return siriously. The more false alarms there are, the more I find myself holding on to his promise. The reason why is that when one of these false prophecies are made I remember what Jesus said to his disciples in Matthew 24 verses 3 to 5. check it out.
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 ¶And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
did you catch that? Not just one or two would come in his name, but many! This is very significant because when we read history, we will find out that there were many false mesiahs after Christ asended to Heaven. We still see those false christs today and some of them come in the form of false promises that leave those who believe them with no foundation to stand upon and holding a bag full of doubt. I’m very grateful to god for this worning, because those such as my self who ankor their souls in God’s word can use his wornings and promises to keep their love for his return from growing cold.
Believers Who Really Don’t Believe
There are many who have lost faith in Jesus and in his soon return because after two thousand years we’re still waiting for him and noone knows how much longer we will have to wait. but if we study the Bible carefully, we will discover that God not only worned believers about a seeming delay before his return, but he gave us the reason for it. the bible even lets us know that many will poke fun at the idea of the soon return of Jesus. The amazing thing about this worning in particular is that God isn’t speaking about those who don’t believe in this verse, he is specificly refering to those who once believed but have allowed the cares of this life and his seeming delay to distract them from his word and cause them to doubt his promises.
2 Peter 3
3 ¶Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
Now pay close atention to what they say.
Have you ever heard anyone say this before?
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
How do we know that he is talking about believers in this passage? Lets look at verses 5 and 6.
2 Peter 3
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
so they know but they are choosing to forget that the word that caused this world to come in to existance and brought about its distruction by a world wide flud, is the same word that was made flesh and has promised a kingdum where righteousness reigns forever to all who hold on to the promise with out wavering. They have forgotten to the point where they’re scoffing at those who once shared the same hope that use to burn in their hearts. this is what we’re told they will say. “All things continue from the beginning of Creation” Have you ever heard anyone say this before? In other words, don’t expect anything to change. this world as we know it will continue as it is. I have even heard some atempt to change the meaning of this wonderful promise by suggesting that the second coming of Jesus is not literal, but something spiritual. Here is what those who think in this way have also forgotten.
2 Peter 3
9 ¶The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
what is god waiting for?
so why is God waiting? He doesn’t want anyone to be lost. He doesn’t want anyone to miss out on eternity. This is how much God loves the unbeliever. In spite of their ridicule and their making light of his gift of salvation, he still waits and works on their hearts and praise his name many have been converted and now place their hope in his soon return.
I don’t know how much longer the wait will be. I hope that it will be in my lifetime. I hope that in a few more years my two year old son will be among the many children playing on the streets of gold. Now lately my prayer has been “Lord if you don’t come in my lifetime, then please cause the hope of your return to burn brighter in my heart on the day I take my last breath than it does now.” Let me share one more passage from the bible with you. I have hidden these verses in my heart and I pray that you will do the same.
Hebrews 10
35 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:
37 “For yet a little while,
And He who is coming will come and will not tarry.
38 Now the just shall live by faith;
But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.”
39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.
a Strange kind of christmas Caral
He is making a list and checking it twice? Oh how unfortunate that most children look forward to Santa Claus more than the coming of the savior of humanity. How unfortunate that many songs have been written about santa and what he is going to do for us on Christmas eve. It saddens me grately when people talk about Santa claus as if its not makebelieve. I’m sure you can tell that I’m not crazy about Santa Claus and the matirialism he brings. You may be surprised to find out that I don’t think much about the Birth of Jesus during this time of the year. Instead, I choose to look ahead to his soon return. so my kind of Christmas caral is a second advent song. I hope you like it. think about this wonderful promise as you listen.

John 14
1 ¶Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
