Inspiration Behind the Music
No good parent says yes to their children every time they ask. The reason is obvious, Parents usually understand the needs of their children better than they do. Since our Heavenly Father is good and since his wisdom is beyond human understanding, we should expect him to deal with us the same way. When children grow in their understanding, they usually begin to realize that their parents are looking out for their best interest. As they grow in knowledge and as the relationship with their parents deepens, they gain a greater understanding of what requests to make and how their parents will respond.
So it should be with us. As we grow in grace and in the knowledge of God’s word his desires for his children are clearly seen. It is far better to make a request when you already know that the answer will be yes than to have to wait on the answer or to be left in suspense. Their are prayers we can pray that our Heavenly Father will always say yes to. We can be certain and this certainty allows us to have confidence when we ask. This is why Paul tells us that we should come boldly to the throne of grace. (Hebrews 4:16)
John gives us some insight into how to pray like this when he said that if we ask for anything according to his will that he hears us and if we know that he hears us, we know that we have what we are asking for. (I John 5:14) So in order to pray like this, I must know his will, but how can we know his will? His will is in his word: and to be more specific, it is in his law. (Psalm 40:8)
One morning while reading through Psalm 119, I came across this verse. It is one of the many prayers recorded in the Bible that God will always say yes to. It is a prayer that everyone can pray with the confidence spoken of by John and the boldness spoken of by Paul. It is a very simple prayer, one I am praying for myself and hoping you will begin to pray for yourself as well.
Here is the Prayer. “Let my heart be blameless regarding your statutes, that I may not be ashamed.” (Psalm 119:80) NKJV
There are lots of requests we can make to our Heavenly Father and as his son Jesus says, He is willing to give good gifts to us even more than we are willing to give good gifts to our children. Luke 11:9-13) Unfortunately too often, we are concerned more about temporal blessings than the spiritual blessings that are essential for eternal life.
The Bible tells us that the reason why the answer to many of our prayers for temporal blessings are delayed, is so that we can understand and appreciate more the spiritual blessings God offers freely to us. ( I Peter1:7) (James 1:12) When we come to a complete understanding that a near profession of faith will not allow anyone to stand in the presence of a holy God, we will value purity of heart much more than we do now. How does God measure the purity of our hearts? The answer is in the prayer in Psalm 119. David realized that he could not do this work for himself, so he cryed out to God. He realized that the blamelessness that is required by God is also supplied by God. We will find it no where else but at his throne of grace. His hands are open and he invites us to receive the experience of faith only he can provide. By faith in his son Jesus, we can be made blameless and be found by him blameless when he returns.
When David prayed this prayer, he was not merely asking for blamelessness in theory, but in reality. We know that his prayer was answered because scripture records that David was a man after God’s own heart. (Acts 13:22) By faith we will also be people after God’s own heart and the blamelessness he cried out to God for will be ours. ( II Peter 3:14)
