Inspiration Behind the Music
I once heard of a picture of a bird nestled in a small cleft of a mountain. It was storming and this was no average storm. It was the kind of storm that you prepare for and wait inside until its gone. I heard that when you take a closer look at the bird, you notice that the bird is sleeping. Underneath the picture is the caption, “peace”. I think that the purpose of the picture is to remind us of the peace that is available to us when we believe and trust in the promises of God.
I am writing this just a week after hurricane Irma which left a path of death and destruction in the Caribbean and left much of the state of Florida without power. Now hurricane Maria seems to be following a similar path to Irma, at least in the Caribbean and some are wondering if the Eastern US will have another hurricane to deal with. My son needed much comforting before Irma. I remember setting him on my lap, putting my arms around him and telling him that God would be with us. He must have believed me, because in spite of the howling winds and shaking doors, he slept. The storm lasted a long time, but he slept through it all.
God knows how to take good care of animals even in the midst of terrible storms and if He cares about the animals enough to look after them in this way, will He not protect His children even more? He is a good father. As long as we remain within the boundaries of His love, we will be sheltered from the devastation that the storms of life can bring. I am not saying that trusting in God makes us immune from problems. I’m saying that we can be hidden away in the shelter of God’s love, even as the storms of life rage around us. He promises that if we dwell with Him in this way, we will abide under His shadow. (Psalm 91:1)
In the midst of his trials, David prayed this prayer.
“Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings,”
Psalms 17:8 NKJV
We are the apple of His eye and if we are willing, He will cover us just like a mother hen covers her chicks. (Matthew 23:37) He knows that we are helpless without Him and promises never to leave or forsake us. (Deuteronomy 31:8) God has many ways of hiding His children from the tribulations of this world. Sometimes He will even hide the righteous in the grave. When He does this, even death is a blessing to the righteous. Job understood this and in the midst of his trials he asked God to hide him in the grave. (Job 14:13)
We can be certain that because God is good, He only desires good for his children. For those who love Him, He has an even grater good than we can imagine. There are even greater troubles coming upon our world, but we have nothing to fear. He promised to hide us and He will keep His promise.
