Inspiration Behind the Music
When a man and a woman are in love, usually it is very easy to tell. When they speak to one another, their voices change, their eyes light up when they see one another and they make sure that everyone knows that they belong to each other. In western culture, many couples use the wedding-band to declare to all that they are married and that they are not available. However in spite of how many couples display their wedding-bands, many marriages fail. Now it is rare if a marriage lasts longer than twenty years.
Just as some use the wedding-Band as a sign of ownership, our Heavenly Father also left a sign both to us and to the world that we are in a special relationship with him. It is much more tangible than a wedding-band. A wedding-band can be lost and many have been misplaced, but the sign that God has given to us is perpetual. He gave it to us at the very beginning of time and it will last throughout all eternity. He said, “I gave them my Sabbaths to be a sign between them and me so that they may know I am the Lord who sanctifies them.” (Ezekiel 20”12) Sanctification is a process that all believers must experience. It is the process which results in leaving behind the things of this world and becoming more like Jesus. The lovelyness of Jesus surpasses measurement. This is the reason why sanctification is the work of a lifetime.
Jesus loves his bride and his bride loves him. It is time that causes this love to grow deeper. Since there is nothing that can make God love us more, it is our love for him that grows. This is why God gave us twenty-four hours, a whole day to spend with him. Every Sabbath, Sabbath keepers have the privilege of forgetting the cares of this life and spending time in his presence. During this time we receive from him fresh supplies of grace which reminds us that we belong to him and that we are being recreated in his image.
The Sabbath also reminds us that Jesus is Lord. According to Ezekiel 20:12, this was one of the reasons he gave it to us. However, It is not just intellectual knowledge that God desires,, God desires that his Lordship over our lives to be the joy of every believer. The evidence that he is our lord is demonstrated to others when we obey his commandments with willing and joyful hearts. Our love for Jesus is what makes obedience a joyful experience. This is why we don’t keep his commandments to prove we love him, we love him first and then out of this love springs faith, obedience and righteousness. (John 14:15)
If you are not a Sabbath keeper, an invitation is extended to you to enter into the joy of the Sabbath when it comes this week. It begins on Friday evening and ends when the sun goes down on Saturday evening. If you are married, then most likely you look forward to the joy of your wedding anniversary. Keeping the Sabbath is very much like a wedding anniversary, only better. Why is it better? It is better because we don’t have to wait a whole year to experience the joy of leaving everything else behind for communion with our Savior. Because we love Jesus, we have sweet communion with him every day of the week, but during the Sabbath we get to leave everything else behind, not just for a few hours in church, but for the whole day.
