Inspiration Behind the Music

I Believe

Some years ago, I remember watching a panel discussion about the contributions the King James Version of the bible had made to society. The talk show was to commemorate the four hundred year anniversary of the King James Bible. The panel included members of the clergy and famous Atheists like Richard Dawkins. I remember during the discussion hearing one of the atheists mockingly ask the members of the clergy if they really believed that Lot’s wife turned into a pillar of salt after looking back at the burning cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. I don’t remember how the clergy answered, but they didn’t say yes. It sounded like one of those intellectual answers that leave much room for doubt and to my dismay the answer was given in a very halting and hesitating way. The clergy almost seemed embarrassed by the question.

“With God, all things are possible.” These are the words of Jesus. These words may sound too simple, especially when facing impossible circumstances. For me, these words answer many of the perplexing questions that skeptics like to hurl at believers. Maybe someday scientists will figure out how a virgin can conceive or how the sun can stand still. For now, for those who believe, these questions will remain in the realm of mystery. What we need to remember, is that even the greatest mysteries have answers even though they may be far beyond our comprehension. Robert Fulton was the object of many jokes when he proposed to use steam to get his boat up the Hudson River from New York to Albany. In fact his boat was nicknamed Fulton’s Folly. He soon proved them wrong and now after two hundred years of hindsight we can see how his folly led to greater innovations.

Even greater than Fulton’s folly, is Noah’s folly. Why would someone build a boat when it had never rained before and then urge everyone to get on board? The people in Noah’s day most likely didn’t know what he was building which would have made his explanation even more fallacious. Regardless of the folly of building a boat when there was no need for one, Noah was obedient to God’s command. The Bible says, in Hebrews 11:7 that because of his obedience, he became an air to the righteousness which is according to faith. The account doesn’t stop there, because we see in the same verse that by his obedience Noah condemned the world. Skepticism is no different today than in the time that the Bible was written. People always want to see evidence, but what I have noticed is that sometimes if the evidence doesn’t support what the skeptic wants to believe, it will be denied. God gave sufficient evidence for any objective seeker of truth to evaluate when he had the various species of animals enter the Ark, but the idea of the world being destroyed by water seemed so far out that the evidence was ignored.

There are many things that we may never understand this side of eternity. If someone had asked Noah to explain how the rain was going to destroy the Earth, he would not have been able to offer an explanation. Lot had no idea how his wife turned in to a pillar of salt, but according to the Bible’s account, the evidence lay right there behind him and could not be ignored. Our faith should allow us to accept that there are some things that God has not shared with us and the Bible provides us with the reason. Here it is.
Deuteronomy 29 29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

God’s revelations to humanity are to inspire faith in his will for our lives and obedience to his law. So believers should expect that all of the evidence that god discloses, will point us towards his law and to faith in him. In fact the more we know the less faith we tend to have. The Bible teaches that sin began right in God’s presence and it wasn’t because of a lack of evidence, it was because Lucifer began to cherish pride in his heart: so much so that he began desiring God’s position. See Ezekiel 28:12-19. The skeptic does not need more evidence, what the skeptic needs is humility: the kind of humility that allows us to trust even when we don’t understand completely. Jesus pronounces a special blessing upon those who have this kind of humility.
John 20 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
I have not had the privilege of meeting Jesus in person, but I’m longing for the day when I will. Until then, I intend to seek that special blessing bestowed upon those who still believe without seeing.

This song asks the questions, “how can a man be born again when he’s old? How does an Atheist believe? The answers to these questions are not very clear because the Bible refers to this process as the mystery of Godliness. See Revelation 10:7, Ephesians 6:19 and Colossians 1:26-27. Mysterious is the best way to describe the process, but in spite of this, I have met many people including former atheists in whom the evidence of a rebirth cannot be ignored. The evidence is much too clear, so I will say along with the millions who have gone before me: Jesus I Believe

this song is now available and can be purchased here.

  1. Neville, I personally feel this post iwas very timely. Throughout earth’s history humanity has had an issue believing what we can not see. It’s the very thing Jesus tells the Centurion, ” except ye see signs and wonders you will not believe”.

As Christians we are asked to believe in God who has never broken a promise and one that paid the penalty for us not being able to keep the promise!

Thanks for the reminder that we ought to believe, even when things don’t seem likely or possible we should believe!

  2. A+ Straight from the heart of the gospel as was prophesied in times of old, this Jesus who was foretold to be the blessed hope of the world has become the joy of the world, Hallelujah!!

Absolutely love the music Neville, please continue to be used as the Lord’s voice.

  3. I believe that we should be a positive role model for our Young People. When we teach them the right way, the HOLY SPIRIT will do ITS part.

Neville, I also believe that the right music is a motivation to do the right thing. Keep on doing your thing.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IS VITAL: “Pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness,” are as deadly foes to human progress in this generation as when they led to the destruction of Sodom. Teachers should understand these things, and should instruct their pupils in these lines. Teach the students that right living depends on right thinking, and that physical activity is essential to purity of thought. ED 209

    Read: Ezekiel 16:49 & 50

    1. Bill that’s so true. Maybe the fullness of bred is one of the reasons why so many have fallen into unbelief.

  4. 2017 is the years and beyond to believe God’s prophets sent us, to warn and ready us for the Later Rain

The possibility of Sunday Law coming in President Trumps time is very possible, but it is coming

2 Chronicles 20:[20] So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”

Believe and prosper brothers and sisters

    Jesus love

  5. “The more we know, the less faith we have”. What a paradox! However, through the eyes of faith, we see much further, deeper, higher, broader than the temporal eye.
The song, “I Believe” presents a beautiful, melodious, easy to understand object lesson on pure faith and trust.
