Inspiration Behind the Music
You may be surprised to know that my blindness is not much of a burden to me. One of the reasons is that there are so many things in this world that are not worthy to behold. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that this world is all doom and gloom. However when compared to Glory, which is exceedingly beyond what the greatest minds can ever imagine, the best that this world has to offer, is definitely worth missing.
I am not saying that I never wish that I could see. Occasionally I do. When my four year old son and I go to the park and he asks me to throw him a ball or when he says he wish that I could see him riding his bike for the first time with no training wheels, I am reminded that my blindness keeps me from enjoying many of the experiences that those with site take for granted.
Glaucoma is the reason for my blindness. I was diagnosed with it at six months old. To my knowledge there still is no cure for it, but even if there was, it has already run it’s corse. the damage has been done and there is no reversing it. So, Instead of focusing on the fact that I cannot enjoy the pleasures that most people with site take for granted, I choose to focus on all the experiences that do not require site to enjoy. since I am a believer in the promise of the second coming of Jesus, I sometimes find myself lost in the wonder of what the world will look like when it is made new. The contemplation of the glories that await believers in the kingdom of God and my intense desire to be there, eclipse any desire to have my sight.
If you are a goal setter, you know what I mean and you know what it is like to have your immediate pleasures deferred in order to reach even greater pleasures. this is why true believers forsake all for Christ. The satisfaction of knowing that our Heavenly Father is pleased with the work we do for his kingdom and the hope of the reality of that kingdom soon to come, keeps us moving forward. there are many sacrifices we must make along the journey and even though the self denial that comes with this kind of faith can be messy and painful at times, knowing that one day we will hear our Savior say “well done” gives us the strength we need. The Joy of our Lord is our strength. (Nehemiah 8:10)
This kind of joy was not foreign to Jesus while here on Earth. He was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief (Isaiah 53:3), but he endured every trial that we may enter into his joy. The knowledge that many will be justified and receive the gift of eternal life, was the joy that kept him on the cross. )Isaiah 53:11) The faith that Jesus had in his Father gave him a taste of the joy that eternity with us his children will bring. When we trust in his promises as he did in his father’s, we will have the same experience. the next time you pick up your bible, spend some time in Isaiah 53. there you will get a glimpse into the sufferings of our Lord, but remember in spite of all he endured, he had joy and this joy is available to us today.
In spite of the unexpected turns that life can take, many of which bring pain and sorrow, I am satisfied. If I have to wait until I get to Glory to see the faces of my wife and children, it will be worth the wait. I will not be one bit surprised if I find out that some how, God was using my blindness to work out my salvation. there will be greater trials that we will have to face before we get to Glory and greater burdens we will have to bare, but let us never forget that the joy of the Lord is our strength. No matter what you are dealing with right now, May you be filled with his joy both now and always.
What are some of the immediate pleasures you have deferred in order to enjoy being at the right hand of our Heavenly Father forever? How has faith in Jesus given you a glimpse of glory and the joys to come?
