Inspiration Behind the Music
Are we there yet? If you are a parent, you are definitely familiar with this question. Now I expect to hear it at least four times when on a road trip with my five year old son. Sometimes I hear it more than four times, a lot more. Usually, another question follows right behind it. How much longer till we get there? Before GPS systems, the only way this question could be answered is with an educated guess, but now all you need to do is check the count-down timer on your GPS to know how long before you arrive at your destination.
What I like most about GPS systems, is that they don’t just guide you to your destination, they also provide you with land-marks, in addition to warning you about traffic and police. I also like the fact that if you get lost they show you how to get back on track again. What the GPS system is to the driver, the Bible is to the believer. It shows us the path of righteousness in this unrighteous world. When we lose our way, it shows us how to get back on track and also warns us when the enemy is near. It even comes with land-marks to look out for, so that we can know when our Heavenly destination is near.
For 2000 years believers have been asking the same question and as uncertainty of the future of our world grows, we like my son, are asking it more. In the midst of the noice of our perplexities, we hear His voice. “I am coming soon.” (Revelation 22:12) But how soon is soon? Thankfully, we have the prophetic land-marks to help us. Here are some of the land-marks Jesus told us to look out for.
“And He said: “Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He, ’ and, ‘The time has drawn near.’ Therefore do not go after them.”
Luke 21:8 NKJV
I am very grateful for this warning, because it keeps us from being deceived. This prophecy has been fulfilled many times over. Even here in Florida there is someone claiming to be the reincarnate Christ.
“Then He said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.”
Luke 21:10-11 NKJV
The western world is constantly on guard because of the threat of terrorism and a soon to be nuclear North Korea. In addition to all the wars that are going on in our world, we can see that natural disasters are on the rise.
Now here is one of the last land-marks we will pass before we reach the kingdom of God.
“Men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near.”
Luke 21:26, 31 NKJV
Dear friends, according to Jesus, the kingdom of God is near. I take great comfort in this fact. Even though sometimes I feel myself teetering on the brink of the precipice of fear and uncertainty, almost ready to fall, this is what I remember…
“Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.””
Luke 21:28 NKJV
Not too long from now, we will hear His voice saying, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:”
Matthew 25:34 NKJV
