Inspiration Behind the Music
The world as they knew it was coming to an end. For three and a half years they had spent every waking moment with Him and life without Him seemed impossible. Even though He hadn’t restored power to their people, they knew that He was the promised one. Why would He leave before fulfilling the promise and what did He mean when He said that he was going to his Father?
No wonder Jesus felt that it was necessary to begin His farewell speech with the words “Let not your heart be troubled.” He knew what they would have to face that night and he knew they were not ready to face the harsh reality of his arrest, trial and crucifixion. Nevertheless, because prophecy must be fulfilled and it must be fulfilled precisely at the time specified, Jesus would not do anything to avoid the trials soon to come. What could be better to leave his disciples with than the promises of his word?
Today, 2000 years later, we are still holding on to these promises. As we look around our world, we see that many parts of it is very unstable and the experts in diplomacy are not sure how to find the peaceful solutions that we all desire. Many had begun to comfort themselves with the thought that here in the western world, peace is very tangible and that we know how to get along with one another, until the ideas that inspire the terrorists in the east began to surface right here among us. Now when we consider these challenges, hoping and believing in a better world doesn’t seem so far fetched. In fact, most of us are doing what we can to make this world a better place. Is this a realistic goal? Can we do it? If we could, what need would we have for the promise Jesus made in (John 14:1-3)? If we could bring peace to our world, could it ever compare to the peace promised to those who believe in the words of Jesus in (John 14:27)?
Even if we could create a utopia here on Earth, it wouldn’t even come close to the place Jesus said he was going to prepare. The Bible says that this place is far beyond what we are able to imagine. (I Corinthians 2:9) The best we can do here on Earth falls far short of God’s ideal. In spite of the fact that our world still has some positive attributes, it is still marred by sin. People continue to sin against God and against one another. God will not settle for anything less than the perfect environment he has planned for his creation. The reason is simple. God is love and perfect love always bestows perfection upon those who receive it in its fullness.
There are many mansions in the Father’s house. Jesus is customizing one of them for you. He is customizing one of them for me. He has us on his mind. His desire is that where he is we will be also, but for now we wait for the fullness of time. He knows no haste and no delay. He did not interfere with events in order to avoid the trial which tested the faith of his disciples. Instead, he made a promise to them that he would come again. The power of this promise has kept believers over the centuries even to the point of death. Life as we know it is changing rapidly. Our world is filled with uncertainty. However, we can be certain of this one thing, if we hide the promise of Jesus in (John 14:1-3) in our hearts we will not be troubled. Let us guard this promise and watch over it like it is our most valuable possession. We will definitely need it in the days and years to come.
