Inspiration Behind the Music
My wife and I have been married for close to ten years, but I remember our wedding day as if it were yesterday. It was an intimate outdoor wedding, very simple, but very beautiful. The smiles and laughter of our friends were mingled with their tears of joy as we all celebrated our union. We ate, we sang and we enjoyed the moment, but nothing mattered to me more than the fact that this was the beginning of the rest of my life with the love of my life. As memorable as my wedding was, it was not unique. Even most bad marriages begin with beautiful weddings. We don’t have to look far for proof that this is true.
There are many reasons why marriages don’t work, but the Bible gives us the method to a divorce proof marriage. Husbands should love their wives just as Christ loves his church. (Ephesians 5:25) But how did Christ love his church? According to the same verse, he gave himself for it. The suffering of the cross that Jesus endured stands as a witness through out eternity to the universe that Jesus loves his church. This is just one of the reasons why he is worthy of our adoration and praise.
No relationship can survive without intimacy. As the Bible says, when a husband unites with his wife, the two become one flesh. (Genesis 2:24) In the same way, Christ desires to be one with his church. If you belong to the church of Christ, you can be certain that his greatest desire is to be one with you. This kind of intimacy always results in an exchange of characteristics. Lately, I have been hearing that my wife and I are starting to look alike. Since I’m blind I don’t really understand what this means, but I definitely can see a spiritual lesson here.
“And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.”
Revelation 19:8 NKJV
What a wonderful exchange! Christ takes the sins of his church and gives them his righteousness, but according to this verse it is not his righteousness alone, but their righteousness. This is great news! I am understanding this verse to be saying that whatever God says I am, I become. The righteousness of Christ in the life of a believer is not just a theory, it is a reality. Speaking of his saints, God says this through the prophet Isaiah. “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the LORD.”
Isaiah 54:17 NKJV
Through the blood of Christ, our past has been erased and through his spirit we receive power to live his life. This is why our accusers are condemned in the judgement and God can say with confidence, “Their righteousness is of me.”
My wife and I looked forward to our wedding with longing anticipation, but as with every wedding, we had to prepare. Christ has gone to Heaven to prepare a place for his bride (John 14:1-3) and while we wait for his return, we also must prepare. When Christ returns, the angels along with other Heavenly beings will rejoice. (Revelation 19:7) Many were glued to their television sets for the marriage of Prince William and Kathrine Middleton. The wedding of Prince Charles and Williams’s mother Diana was termed the “wedding of the Century” and had an estimated global television audience of 750 million. To many, it was a fairytale wedding, but what could be more romantic, charming and heart warming than a man who gives his life for his bride, then is resurrected, and goes to prepare an eternal home for her and then returns for her on a white horse to take her back to the home that he prepared?
The whole universe will witness the union of Christ and his church and there will be a celebration that has never been equaled from eternity. Not only do I want to be there to witness this wedding, I want to be in it. How about you?
