Inspiration Behind the Music
“He may not come when you want him and you may not even get what you’re asking for, but that’s when something better is in store.” Some time ago, I was reflecting on the story of Moses and how he was not allowed to enter the Promised Land because of his disobedience. The Bible tells us that Moses pleaded with God to let him enter. Here is Moses’s account of the conversation he had with God.
Deuteronomy 3 25 I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon. 26 But the LORD was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter. 27 Get thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
Not only did God tell Moses that he could not enter, He told Moses not to even ask Him any more to enter. And to make things worse, God tells Moses to go up to the top of the mountain and look at the land that he wanted to enter, but couldn’t. After considering this story more closely, I realized that God new the Children of Israel would turn away from Him after crossing over in to the Promised Land. Moses new also because God told him, but it seems as if God wanted to spare Moses the heartache of seeing them turn back to idols. What a kind and considerate God we serve. I am so thankful that this is not the end of the story. I believe that it took a tremendous amount of faith to submit his desire and obey. Moses wanted to enter the Promised Land, but look what God gave him instead.
Matthew 17 1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, 2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. 3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
I started from verse 1 to give us the context. We saw from the previous verses in Deuteronomy that Moses went up on the top of the mountain and died, but now we see him talking with Jesus hundreds of years later. The book of Jude tells us that Moses was resurrected. (Jude 1:9) Instead of Cities in a land that fades away, God gave Moses something much better. God gave him access to the Heavenly city the New Jerusalem which stands forever and never will pass away. It seems like Moses got the better deal at the end of the day.
We don’t know the future, but our God does. We only have the ability to look back to the pass and see how God has lead us. Moses wanted the Promise Land, but God gave him something better. It is hard sometimes to see beyond our wants and especially our disappointments, but when we commit ourselves to God just as Moses did, we can rest assured that He will bless us far beyond what we wanted just as He did for Moses. God looked beyond Moses’s faults and saw his need. I am so thankful that he does the same with us. Aren’t you?
Hello Neville. This song and the inspirational message were both right on time for me. I can relate to Moses’ experience of missing out on a “Promise land” due to disobedience . But as time went on in my life, God has blessed me with wisdom, grace and mercy. Now I live more for God and less for self.. Just today, I was contemplating on my past mistakes , but reminded myself to press forward in God and to keep the faith. Your preview and inspirational thought just confirmed to me to hold on because God has something better in stored ; more than what I could ever ask for! Thank you Neville for sharing the preview, “Something Better” ; along with the message with us all! It is truly right on time! God bless you.
Hi Neville, thanks for sharing “truth” in the song, telling that when God does not give us what we ask Him for at times, is because He has something better for us, and that is so quite true. I have at present a relative who is in a “coma” for many weeks now, for whom I have been interceding, but I know He has a better plan, and He has “better” that will come to the immediately family. I know that at times, God gives the best healing, and He puts an end in His way to the sickness experienced by someone He may call home to be with Him. Our part, is to seek God, listen, and wait on Him, and in His time, we will have the answer in God’s way, which for me is very satisfying, and at the same time maturing me, drawing me closer to Him, helping me to learn more of His ways. God’s thoughts toward you are to do you good, and to give you a bright future Jeremiah 29: 11. We cannot lose with God. We must continue to trust Him at all times. We cannot measure His depth of love for us.
Hie Mr Neville,
may God still inspire you with more encouraging words as this to people like me. Words can’t express how much I appreciate this, but i hope when we shall meet in paradise we will share the joy that i have gained from this message.
God bless you and your partners as you continue to minister unto Us, may He give us a heart to continue ministering to others.
I guess the next time maybe it will be unconditional love Our Creator and saviour Jesus Christ has for us. Thank you once again.
Neville,
Once again God has given you a message of encouragement that speaks to the heart of our disappointments here on planet earth. We must remember that this is not the end but just the beginning and we must ” hold-on and stand still” because there is something better.
This song is AWESOME !!I love the melody and the words thank you again
Keep them coming
What a beautiful message. We think God isn’t listening to our requests sometimes, but we need patience & trust that something better is in store for us.
Thank you – great job!!
Hi Neville,
I’m kind of knew to this site but I’ve been inspired by each email and “Mini bible study”. As you wrote about Moses and God, I was reminded of another time Moses asked for something and was denied. He had received the ten Commandments and asked to see God’s face. God told him no, but allowed him to see the hem of His garment. To my knowledge, Moses was the only person in the old testament to have that honor. He asked God to spare the Children of Israel, and God said no. But when Moses asked to be taken instead, God changed and said he would spare the younger generation. There are more instances when God told Moses no, but then relented. However, the last time seems to me to be the best because God told Moses he could never enter the Promised Land, but allowed him to see every part of it before he died. If Moses had entered the land, he would never have gotten to view the entire land at once. I can imagine him looking out over the land and seeing the people like little ants, spreading out and beginning to occupy it. God was merciful and allowed Moses to see the fruits of his labor even though it was from afar. I wonder if Moses died peacefully looking out at the beautiful land God had given his people.
Powerful words that eloquently express what led you to write this soul-stirring music. It touched me deeply in a meaningful way.
I’m praying that God will continue to use you to spread his gospel and hasten the return of Jesus.
I’m so glad to know that this song has touched you. Thank you for letting me know. I also greatly appreciate your prayers. There is no greater purpose than to help the world get ready for the soon coming of Jesus.
