Inspiration Behind the Music

It’s the most wonderful time of the week. Birthdays are special and holidays are special, but the only day that serves as a weekly commemoration is the Sabbath. Where does the 7 day week come from? If you’re a believer in the Genesis account of the origin of our world, the answer is very obvious, but if you are a skeptic the answer may be very hard to find.

You may not have heard, that in the not so distant past, France tried to change the length of the week from seven days to ten days. Well it is obvious that their little experiment didn’t work. The Soviet Union first tried a five day week and then a six day week, but as we can see, these two experiments didn’t work either. You may be interested to know that the societies that tried to get away from the seven day week were Atheistic. After all why have a seven day week if there is know God? I may be mistaken about the motivation of these countries to change the weekly cycle. However, the fact that they couldn’t change it is enough evidence for me that the seven day weekly cycle is universally significant.

God has not only left humanity with the witness of the bible of his existence and the origin of the world, but he has also left a time stamp in the seventh day weekly cycle and in the Sabbath, that cannot be ignored, even by unbelievers. He says that he left us his Sabbaths, so we can know that he is the one who set us aside for himself and for his holy purpose. (Ezekiel 20:12) I love the fact that God has many holy purposes for us to fulfil, but I love even more the wonderful truth that he has set me aside for himself. This is what it means to be sanctified.

Special relationships work in a very similar way. You are set aside for your significant other. You are the one upon which they bestow their supreme regard. If your relationship with your husband or your wife is healthy, there are not very many things more important than you and if we are in right relationship with God, there is nothing more important to him than us. We are the apple of his eye. He loves us and his love is as limitless as his power. Love is even better when it is returned which is why we are given special time to commune with our Savior. Wedding anniversaries only come around once a year. It is the same with holidays and birthdays, but every Sabbath, we can have the privilege of communion with our creator and we get to forget about everything else to focus on him completely. If you have had this delightful experience, then you know what I’m talking about when I say in this song, “Lord we love your holy Sabbath!”

Yes, I have had experiences of great Sabbaths; in nature,in social gatherings, with family and friends. The one Sabbath afternoon experience I found most unique and memorable was one spent with my significant other, we used the afternoon just focusing on each other, it was beautiful and now rememnds me of how God must feel just looking forward to His special moment (the Sabbath) with us, moreover how he must feel when the Sabbath arrives.
